SIC officers/members present: Tammie Golden (chair) Shane Sanford (principal), Segina Canty (Asst. Principal), Adrienne Edge (parent), Johanna Rokes (parent), Amy Skipper (TOY), Vanessa Thompson (PTA president), Kari Kocian (Community Member)
The meeting was called to order at 8:30 am by Tammie Golden.
Principal’s Report: Principal Sanford reviewed the school data that we currently have and made note that math is a weakness from the SC Ready scores. Spann no longer has a math coach due to the lack of funding.
Capturing Kids Hearts is a school goal this year and it was explained how social contracts are used in the classroom and around the school. Parents asked if the teachers could share the classroom social contracts perhaps in Schoology so that the parents are aware and can reinforce at home.
Parental Involvement: The chair started the discussion of goals for the year and everyone agreed that it should involve math. On half days, our classes have clubs. A math club will be started for K-2 students and teachers will use data to identify the at risk students. SIC will focus on assisting with those clubs and our PTA president will ask for volunteers. This will start on September 25th with Tammie Golden, Carolina Batten, and Amy Stokes. As we get volunteers, we will add more students to the club. The focus will be foundational math skills for the students.
Johanna Rokes brought up Box Tops and how the process has changed so that the school could benefit from the proceeds. There is now an App for this instead of clipping the box tops.
Announcements: Boosterthon Fun Run is October 10th. Literacy Night will be in November. We will have to move the date of our next SIC meeting because of MTSS.
The new date will be sent out to members and posted on the school website.
Assignments for next month: Contact volunteers to help with math club
